The 2012 Oktoberfest was held in downtown Bend on Oregon Ave., and featured Wiener Dog races, costume, yodeling contests, and a hammerschlagen, which is a race to hammer a nail into a custom table. And if that wasn’t enough, their were of course a lot of different beers for the attendees to enjoy.

In order to enjoy the different brews available from several of Central Oregon breweries you could purchase beer tokens and yellow steins, limited edition ceramic steins, and Oktoberfest Silipints.

The Central Oregon breweries represented at the Oktoberfest included 10 Barrel Brewing, Bend Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery, and Phat Matt’s Brewing Company. For those who preferred wine, the Wine Shop & Beer Tasting Bar served up German and Austrian wines.

There was also a family zone with jumping houses and other fun things for the under 21 crowd to enjoy.

On Saturday, the afternoon yodeling contest was won by young crowd favorite Isabella Planegger, who managed to out-yodel other children and even a couple of adults who were brave enough to try their yodeling skills in front of the large crowd.

The most popular event on Saturday appeared to be the Wiener Dog race. People were crowded along the course, and every level of the downtown parking garage, which provided perhaps the best view of the races, was lined with people as well.

The annual Oktoberfest is the only event held downtown that raises money to help downtown Bend, and is responsible for the flowers, Christmas decorations, banners, sidewalk cleaning, and more. The event is produced by the Downtown Bend Business Association, nonprofit organization that works to keep downtown beautiful year-round.

If you missed this year’s annual Bend Oktoberfest, you might want to enter the event into your calendar for next year so you don’t miss it again.
